Tate Street Photography.
Callahan's mostly focused his images on the line in the composition, the depth of field in the image, multiple exposures and the relationship between photography and abstraction in his images. His work is grouped into three themes; Nature, Buildings and People. In his work, from 1947 to 1960 , Callahan used his wife, Eleanor, as his subject his images. The image to the left is one of Callahan's photos of her. This image has quite an eerie or mysterious feeling coming off of it. I think this is due to the black and white colours. I also think that Callahan has left her isolated in this white snowy place with just the tree to create the eerie atmosphere and I think that it has worked. |
William Eggleston.
Eggleston's work usually consists of bold and vibrant colours and contains different compositional techniques like reflection and diagonals. His common surroundings in his images are places like petrol stations and most of his images include cars in them or some sort of transport. This image has been taking by William Eggleston. The woman is wearing vibrant colours as well as the seat she is sitting on. This makes her stand out compared to the rest of the dark background. He has also captured her in quite a naturalistic area with all the green and branches in the background.

Tate Trip
On Monday, as a class, we went to Tate Modern in London to view Harry Callahan and William Eggleston exhibitions. On our way there we took photos on the streets based on our street photography topic we have been doing in class. I started to take some photos on the train and on the platform. I found it okay taking photos on the street however sometimes I felt it was kind of awkward as I didn't know the the people and I couldn't get too close to the people however I got as close as I could. To take my photos I used my iPhone and my iPod and some of my images were taken with a film camera. I used my phone most of the time because I could use the filters to take the photo. I really enjoyed taking the photos and enjoyed the experience as it did kind of boost my confidence in taking photos of people as before I found it really awkward.
